The Battle of Crosbybechkin for the Art Ross

The NHL must be loving this...

Scoring Leaders:

Name Team GP G A Pts +/- PIM
Sidney Crosby PIT 39 21 44 65 14 34
Alexander Ovechkin WAS 43 28 31 59 -2 40

Yes, Crosby and Ovechkin are now 1-2 in the scoring race.

Of course, Crosby has done more in less games and done more WITH less.

While Oveckin has 22-goal scorer Alexander Semin and hard-working veterans Dainius Zubrus and Chris Clark to play with, Crosby has to make do with a rookie that looks like a member of the Addams Family and the 58-year old corpse of Mark Recchi.

Oh, let's not mention +14 compared to -2. Maybe we should tout Sidney for the Selke trophy, as well.

Comments:
Zubie and Clark are suddenly Hall of Famers, eh, Jes? Take a look at the numbers - AO has made them legitimate NHLers.

Conspicuously absent as well is any mention of "the next Lemieux," Elbows Malkin.

The Pens have had five top-5 picks this decade, the Caps have had two (one of whom is still in Sweden). The Pens have a higher payroll. Explain to me exactly how Sid has "done more with less."

Take away both players' games against the AHL-caliber Flyers and both players' secondary assists and tell me what the numbers look like.

xoxo,

JP

Oops, you did allude to Malkin's physical appearance while neglecting to mention his skill. My bad.

Uh oh, here come the Ovechkin fans and their propaganda.

Let's see..

Last Year, Evgeni Malkin had 0 points in the NHL. 0!! In fact, he hadn't had a single point in the NHL before this season.

Ovechkin... well Chris Clark had 39, and Zubrus, 57. When Ovechkin has to play with a linemate that had 0 NHL points prior to this season, then we'll talk!

So I have to keep quiet until next year when the evil Swede Backstrom is centering AO? I don't know if I can wait that long, but I'll try.

And Jes won't use "Crosbechkin" because he would be loathe to rip me off.

1) OK, Zubrus is a 2nd liner at best. AO's other line mate Chris Clark really is a 3rd line checking forward.
2) Neither are a true center. Also the Caps have NO legit PP QB on the lines of a Gonchar. (Semin only plays with AO on the PP.)
3) Both Crosby AND AO clearly make the players around them much better. A sure sign that both are superstars. Probably the 2 best in the game. At 19, and 21 respectively, that in of itself is amazing!

Actually, I did mean to rip you off and use "Crosbechkin", but I posted that at 5:30 in the frickin morning, sans caffeine. D'oh!

FauxRumours, don't forget the league's 3rd best player, Pavol Demitra, is over 30. Not all the fine ones are young!

...wait a second. Are you using Malkin being a rookie to justify Crosby being a better player? The only reason Zubrus and Clark had good season was BECAUSE Ovechkin was there to give them feeds and add assists.

Right.

Where does Chris Beech figure in all of this?

And the league's 4th best player, Jaroslav Balastik, is under 30 but playing in Sweden.

I couldn't resist.

And here I thought I was the only one who thought Crosby was better then Ovechkin....
