A European SuperLeague?

With more compost material coming from the NHL and NHLPA today, I'm sure the concept of a European Elite League competing with the NHL is an appealing fantasy for some.

Lyle Richardson (aka Spector) has an article on FoxSports.com on the potential of such a league, complete with a little input from moi.

Personally, I think it is just a flight of fancy from more imaginative writers and dreamers...but it's not an impossibility. As of right now, I have heard almost no rumblings of the possibly from the European media. Until I hear more rumblings from Europe, all of the focus will be on the NHL and PA to get things done here in North America.

I'll certainly agree with Lyle's conclusion...
Ultimately, the notion of a European Elite League may be nothing more than wishful thinking. That being said, it is possible that the European hockey market in its present form could still pose a challenge, albeit on a lesser scale, to the NHL, in terms of competitive bids for free agents.

That, of course, will depend on the outcome of the next collective bargaining agreement.
