Today's Theme: Injuries and Whine
1. Jaromir Jagr and Martin Havlat, among many of the NHLers, have publicly whined about the referees off or on the ice. It seems the NHLers are too used to their 'superior' officiating and are quite frustrated with the Czech officials (Rozhodci).
Why?
2. Injuries - Jaromir Jagr crashed into the goal and he's out. Jiri Slegr hurt his back, and he's awaiting a doctor's diagnosis to see how long he will be out. You can see on the stat updates just how many NHLers are missing games due to injury. I'm sure the NHL teams can't be liking this, but they should expect it and live with it. It's not as if they are actually paying the players right now, anyway.

Why?
- a. Hack and Slash - European hockey players, especially Czecho-Slovak hockey players, are a lot more vicious and liberal with their sticks than the North Americans (who lay down the body a lot more). Jagr, especially, feels that opponents are taking liberties with him and he's tired of looking like a walking mound of bruise.
This reminds me of a strange story regarding ex-Oiler Frantisek Musil in 2002. Musil went back home to play three games for a first division team, Dukla Jihlava, before he retired. During that game, he ended up slashing some poor sap's finger and breaking it...almost sliced the whole thing off! Musil ended up with 54 Penalty Minutes in 3 games!
Old habits die hard...
- b. Interference - Unlike the NHL, where the refs don't like to 'impact' the game (Total and utter BS excuse for their laziness), the Czech and Slovak refs actually call hooking, tripping, interference, and obstruction!!!!! Imagine if the NHL were to do that. Oh wait, they did...for about a month.
The Czech NHLers have been racking up a lot of PIMs for obstruction-like penalties, because they are simply so well training in grappling the opposing forwards, rather than having to skate. Instead of whining, maybe they ought to adapt and play hockey like it should be played.

See, I hate whining about other people whining because it just connotates that you're whining too. But now I'm just whining about your whining about their whining.
Damn Havlat. He'd be perfect if he'd just wipe that smug grin off his face and started playing actual defense. Whenever I tell my friends about his stickhandling, they always think I'm talking about his ... you know, stick.. handling.
